ANNUAL BARN BURNER TOURNAMENT RULES
** This is a “B”, “B female” level tournament with Divisions Tyke- Midget **
By registering my team, I acknowledge that I have read and fully understand the rules stated in this document. I also acknowledge that
I have the authority to register and pay for our spot in this tournament.
- Registration:
- a) Any team wishing to participate in The Barn Burner Tournament must only be registered by someone on their team staff- such as Head Coach, Assistant Coach, or Manager. Multiple team registrations by an association will be allowed pending approval from tournament committee.
- b) The person registering their team is responsible to ensure all communication from the Tournament Committee is relayed in a timely matter to all members of their coaching staff, players and parents.
- c) Payment is to be provided by E-transfer within 48 hours of your team being accepted. E-transfer shall be made by April 12, 2022 to treasurer@highriverlacrosse.com. Failure to send payment by the deadline may result in your team losing their spot in the tournament. Please insure to include in the message of the E-transfer:
-your team name (ex. High River Heat Pee Wee)
-the division (ex. Pee Wee C)
-the name of the person who registered your team (ex. Bobbi Jo Zimmer)
-the names of your coaches and managers (ex. Head Coach- Larry Makortoff, Manager-Jamie West)
- e) In addition, the person registering their team will be required to ensure their teams brings roster stickers for the
tournament, it will be the team managers responsibility to bring roster stickers to Host game sheet table.
- f) Teams will be accepted until a division is full. Once a division is full, teams will be placed on a waiting list, until a spot becomes available.
- g) As Per ALA Regulation 31:04 -Clubs will be responsible for their teams who withdraw within fourteen (14) days of the start date of the tournament and will be invoiced for fines resulting from schedule changes as per 31.03. Written confirmation of the team attending and withdrawing from the tournament must be provided to tournament chair & the ALA Office prior to fines being levied.
- Affiliates and Rosters:
- a) Rosters must match those as submitted to the ALA, it is the team manager responsibility to provide roster stickers 45 min prior to game time.
- b) Teams may affiliate to a maximum of 15 players and 2 goalies. Any affiliate goaltenders must be dressed as goaltenders, on the bench, and will only be eligible to participate as a goaltender during Tournament. Teams may carry a maximum of two goalies. ALL affiliates must be drawn from the same club and in a lower division or lower tiered team in the applicable division competing. Tyke teams are permitted to affiliate first year aged tyke players. Clubs teams without a division below or all teams in the club in the division or level below are attending provincials may affiliate to another team in their Local Governing Body. Players may not be affiliated if a conflict with their normal team exists. All players’ first obligation is to their regular club team.
- c) ALA regulations will be in effect except where otherwise noted.
- d) Any team withdrawing from the tournament after April 12, 2018 will forfeit their entry fee, no exceptions.
- Jerseys
- a) All teams must have a set of two jerseys, or a set of pinnies will be provided by tournament committee. HOME teams shall wear light, and AWAY shall wear DARK. If team colours are similar, the HOME team will be required to change jerseys.
- Game sheets
- a) Game sheets will be available at the Host Table at each venue prior to each game. HOME team must pick up game sheet 30 mins prior to game start.
THE WINNING TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TURNING IN THE GAME SHEET IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE GAME, SO RESULTS CAN BE POSTED. Failure to do so may result in point being awarded to the opposite team.
- Game Play
- a) All games shall be played in the time frames listed below. All games will start on time unless otherwise decided upon by the ALA Representative. In addition, ALA no longer allows time to be dropped in the event a game runs behind.
Tyke: Five (5) minute warm up. Games will be three (3) fifteen-minute runtime periods, no clock stoppage. Three (3) minute rest period between periods. (1 hr. time allowance).
Novice: Three (3) minute warm up. Games will be three (3) fifteen-minute runtime periods, no clock stoppage. Three (3) minute rest period between periods. (1 hr. time allowance).
Peewee: Three (3) minute warm up. Games will be two (2) fifteen minute and one (1) twenty minute (20) stop time periods, (1.25 hr. time allowance). Three (3) minute rest period between periods
Bantam: Three (3) minute warm up. Games will be three (3) twenty minute (20) stop time periods (2 hr. time allowance). (1.5 hr. time allowance). Three (3) minute rest period between periods
Midget: Three (3) minute warm up. Games will be three (3) twenty minute (20) stop time periods (2 hr. time allowance). (1.5 hr. time allowance). Three (3) minute rest period between periods
Overtime in Medal games only as per CLA Rule 20: exemption is made to rest time between periods, which will be five (5) minutes. All Periods shall be stop time periods, the clock shall stop for goals, penalties, time-outs, and Officials discretionary stoppages (i.e.injury). All teams are allowed 1 time out per game and 1 time out in overtime.
- b) If a goal differential of six or more goals is present at any time during the game, the game shall be played at run time,
starting at the next whistle. If the goal difference is brought to within 4, the game shall be returned to stop time.
- c) The 30 second shot clock will be in effect for all minor levels.
- d) Straight time penalties: a two (2) minute penalty running time, to start at start of play (whistle)
- e) Stop Time: the clock will stop only when: 1. A penalty is called, 2. A face off takes place, 3. A goal is scored, or 4. A referee signals for the clock to stop.
- Overtime
All games shall be played out. In the event a game is tied after regular play, the following outlines how overtime shall be conducted:
- a) Teams will not switch ends for overtime
- b) Each team shall be allowed a 1-minute rest before overtime commences, and between each overtime period needed.
- c) five (5) minute sudden victory periods until a goal is scored. There will be one (1) minute rest period between each five (5) minute period. In Medal games only as per CLA. Rule 20: exception is made to rest time between periods, which will be (5) minutes.
- Round Robin
- a) In Round robin play, points will be awarded as follows:
-2 points for WIN
-0 points for LOSS
In the event of a tie in point standings in a competition, as per ALA regulation 27:03. Final standings shall be determined as follows:

- a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game or games between the two teams’ advances. If a tie still exists, the goal
average formula listed below will be used.
- b) If three or more teams are tied, and if one team has defeated the other teams with which it is tied after round robin play, the team shall advance. Otherwise GOAL AVERAGE FORMULA: Only the goals scored in games between the tied teams are used in the goal average formula for tie breaking. Team with the highest ratio advances
- c) Otherwise GOALS AVERAGE FORMULA: Only the goals scored in games between each other plus common opponents are used in the goal average formula for tie breaking. The team with the highest ratio advances.
- d) Otherwise GOALS AGAINST FORMULA: Using goals for and against in all games played by the tied teams.

- Mercy Rule
- a) ANY Tyke, Novice, Peewee, Bantam or Midget game that has a goal differential of 6 goals or more shall be played at run-time from that point on. Only if the goal differential becomes 4 or less, does the game revert back to stop time. At no time, shall a goal differential of more than 6 goals be posted on the scoreboard. Additional goals will be recorded on the game sheet only.
- Scorekeeping
- a) Each team will provide 2 scorekeepers for each game, for a total of 4. One person for the scoreboard, one for the shot
clock, one to record the game sheet, and another to tend the penalty boxes.
- Referees
All referee decisions made during the game are final.
**Abuse of referees, game officials or tournament committee members will not be tolerated, and will be grounds for expulsion of the individual, and/or team involved, at the discretion of the discipline committee. Unruly fans may be barred from the tournament arenas at the discretion of the Referee, Referee-in-Chief, or the Tournament Committee. **
- a) Any match, game or gross misconduct penalties will be sent to the Discipline Committee in the form of a Referee report.
After consulting with the committee, a decision will be rendered regarding the suspension, and the decision will be final.
**17.02.3 GROSS MISCONDUCT as per CLA Rule 48 will result in a MATCH PENALTY with the individual being suspended
from all further ALA sanctioned activities and the incident referred to committee**
- b) Official protests in regard to conduct on the field will not be considered.
- c) Refusing to Start Play: ALA Regulation 20.02.21 A team for any reason refuses to play after being ordered to do so in accordance with Rule 63 of the Canadian Lacrosse Association Rule and Situation Handbook, the designated Head Coach for that team shall receive a minimum six (6) game suspension from which there is no appeal.
Regulation 20 Automatic and Other Suspensions, will be in effect for the tournament as per ALA Regulations
- Protests
To place an appeal, with the HRLA Discipline Committee, the appealing team must put a $300 non-refundable fee forward.
The appeal must be made in writing and must be received no later than 30 minutes after the conclusion of the game. If game conclusion time is missing from the game sheet the scheduled game time conclusion shall be used. The appeal is won the fee will be refunded. If any game or portion thereof is to be replayed. The decision of the HRLA Discipline Committee is final unless the sanction carries beyond the tournament.
- Dressing rooms and facilities
All dressing rooms will be checked prior to, and immediately following each game. Any damages found will be considered the responsibility of the last team who used the dressing room.
** ABSOLUTELY NO BALLS are to be thrown, cradled etc., outside of a designated playing surface, at any of the tournament venues and facilities. Offenders will be subject to disciplinary action by the discipline committee, which may include expulsion from the tournament.
No exceptions- unless you are on the field, playing a tournament sanctioned game, leave the lacrosse balls in your bag!!!**
- Chuck Boutland Fair Play Award
This award is presented to the team who shows the most respect to the game of lacrosse, to all levels of authority, treats the facility with respect, and respects their peers both on their own team and their opponent on and off the floor. Has lower penalty minutes than other teams in the tournament, and finally were seen having FUN!
The award will be presented on Sunday morning, to the team who is chosen by the Tournament Committee. If you feel that you have some feedback you would like to share, please email the tournament committee @ tournament@highriverlacrosse.com. The award will be presented @ 10:00am on Sunday morning. The winning teams’ Manager will be notified if their team is chosen as the team who exhibited the FAIREST PLAY!
- Barn Burner Trophies
HRLA Barn Burner Trophies are to be returned to the tournament office by the completion of the tournament. Not always are there tournament committee members in the room during medal games, please leave with front desk at facility and send an email stating that fact to tournament@highriverlacrosse.com
